EV charger circuits at home

We do residential electrical work only. EV charger circuits at houses, ADUs, and the garages that belong to a home.

A dedicated circuit for a Level 2 charger in a garage, carport or driveway, placed where you actually park. Already bought the charger? We wire for it. Haven't bought one yet? We'll talk through what your panel can support before you do.

What this covers

A dedicated circuit for a Level 2 charger

A 240-volt circuit sized for the charger you have or plan to buy, run to where the cable reaches the car without stretching across the floor.

Hardwired chargers and charger receptacles

Some chargers are wired in directly, and some plug into a 240-volt receptacle. We wire whichever your charger's instructions call for.

Panel capacity and load management

Many houses can take a charger as they are. Some need a panel change first, and some can share capacity with a load-management device or a charger that adjusts itself. We check your panel at the visit and tell you which it is.

Outdoor and detached locations

A charger on an outside wall, at a carport post or in a detached garage, with the run to get there.

What to have ready for the visit

  • The charger's make and model, if you have one, or the one you're looking at.
  • Where you park, and which side of the car the charge port is on.
  • Anything else you're planning soon, like a heat pump or a hot water heater, so we size things once.

Utility programs

Puget Sound Energy has had EV charging programs for its customers, including help for income-qualified households. Snohomish PUD's charger rebate has ended. Programs change, so check before you buy: see rebates and programs to check.

Questions people ask

Can my panel handle an EV charger?

It depends on the size of your service and what's already on it. We look at both at the site visit and tell you plainly what we find, including when a panel upgrade or load management has to come first. See panel and service upgrades.

Do you sell chargers?

No. You choose the charger, and we wire it. If you haven't bought one yet, we'll tell you what your panel can support so you can choose with that in mind.

Can you put the charger outside?

Yes. Outdoor chargers and receptacles need weather-rated equipment and the right protection, and we wire for that.

I'm building a new home. Should I wire for a charger now?

It's usually far easier to run the circuit while the walls are open. See new-home wiring.
